Somerset is one of my favourite places to be. On my trip I went shopping for home decor, here are new and vintage farmhouse pieces that I picked up whilst on my trip.

Some of these cottage and farmhouse pieces were thrifted and some were new. If you are interested in some tips about buying second hand, then check out my previous blog post.

Ticking Stripe Peg Bag – Farmhouse Pieces

This beautiful blue, ticking stripe peg bag is a great kitchen or laundry room accessory to make even your laundry more aesthetic. It was originally from the Garden Trading Company, but I’ve linked a boutique seller. I picked this up from a small boutique shop in Dunster village in Somerset. Pictured on the gorgeous pine wardrobe in our holiday farmhouse, it makes the perfect hold all for your laundry accessories.

I also picked up some wooden pegs to add to the look. I bought mine from Aldi, but as they were a SpecialBuy and may not be around for long I’ve found some on Amazon for a good price.

Light Blue Throw – Coastal Styles

Featured in the top photo in this blog post, this gorgeous throw will be a fabulous farmhouse piece for either a living room or bedroom. If you didn’t already know, we are moving house soon. In preparation, I have begun planning a coastal/cottage style guest bedroom. This throw along with a ship gallery wall, will create a subtle coastal feel which should be a really tranquil place for guests to relax.

I bought this from the National Trust gift shop at Dunster Castle. I have added a link to where you can purchase it online, they have many other colours and styles if you like the ideal but want to go for a different colour or look.

Vintage Books for Styling – Cottage and Farmhouse Pieces

By now most of us are aware that styling vintage books is a massive trend and a great way to add character to your home. The best colours for a farmhouse/cottage style are white, beiges, taupe and definitely shades of green. I picked these up in a book shop in Dulverton. Such a fabulous place with thousands of books so you can shop for them as decor, but also pick ones which interest you! Win win!

Tassel Bath Mat – Scandi/Boho Styles

I found this bath mat in a charity shop. It was such a score as I find that most bath mats are pretty boring with next to no character. In fact, they often look to modern for a farmhouse style bathroom.

I previously found one similar in TK Maxx, but I have linked a few different styles from Amazon if you struggle to find them too.

Ceramics, Brass and Fabrics – Vintage, Cottage, Farmhouse Styles

On our way home we took a trip to one of Britain’s largest charity shops, a Cancer Research store in Bridgwater. They had tons of homeware but I picked up this simple brass candlestick. I also found 4 cups and saucers from Denby. One of them has a small hairline crack but the other 3 are fab, they were all £1 each.

The fabric was from the same charity shop where I found the thrifted bathmat. They had a great selection of fabrics so I picked up a couple. This gorgeous blue ticking stripe will make a fabulous lumbar pillow, I may make a tutorial on it when I get around to making it!

Grain Sieve as Wall Art – Farmhouse Pieces

Last but not least I picked up this great farmhouse piece. It is an old grain/soil sieve and I’ve had my eye out for one for a while. This one was slightly overpriced at £20, but it was in great condition. My plan for this is to make a bit of a gallery wall with other vintage pieces and baskets. I haven’t decided where it will go yet – I guess I will make that decision when we are moved in and settled.

Thank you so much if you made it this far! I hope you enjoyed reading about the farmhouse pieces I picked up on holiday. If you did then please consider subscribing to the blog by popping your email in the box below! See you again soon.
