Baskets are one of the easiest things to thrift, you can end up with many of them in your home. But what can you do with them other than hold things? Read on to discover 5 ways to style thrifted baskets.

1) Thrifted Baskets to Display Pieces of Decor

Using a basket as an anchor for other pieces of decor is a brilliant way of incorporating a flat basket into your home. Whether it is a vase of flowers, some books or magazines or something round that would otherwise roll away! Flat or tray-like baskets are a beautiful addition to any coffee table or ottoman or even then end of the bed in your guest room.

2) Basket of Blooms

A basket (or bucket) of faux blooms is a beautiful sight. This type of decor is great for any time of the year, you can put meadow flowers in spring and summer, sunflowers as you transition into autumn/fall and then a small fir tree or poinsettia for Christmas time. A basket of flowers can be used almost anywhere in the home, if you have a basket type bag you can hang them on a peg rack for a cottage feel. Any other basket shape can be used for this so the idea is so versatile.

3) Storage Baskets

Most people know, by now, that you can use baskets as a pretty alternative to plastic boxes/bins. So I’m just going to reiterate that in this paragraph. If you can find matching baskets, then even better! I have to admit I’ve never thrifted any baskets big enough for the things I usually like to store in baskets, so mine are from IKEA or TK MAXX... but if I could thrift them in the right sizes then I definitely would.

4) Thrifted Baskets as Wall Decor

I’ve never been too sure on gallery walls or basket collections on the wall. But as I’ve moved into a more eclectic cottage story, I’ve started appreciating some of these elements in the right home! A mixture of different styles of unique thrifted baskets can make a wonderful accent wall, and is actually a great way to add character to a drab space or new home. 5) Basket Planters

Lined baskets are great for housing indoor or outdoor plants. So long as they are lined, either you can buy them pre-lined or you can DIY it yourself with a bin liner and a staple gun, you can put plants in them and water them for use in the home or garden. If they are outdoor plants, then it is useful to make at least one hole for drainage. Be careful as baskets will rot if left untreated in all weathers.
